In previous lessons, we learned about direct object pronouns. Today, we’ll learn about indirect objects and their pronouns. An indirect object is a person who receives the action of a verb indirectly. In French, the indirect object is always preceded by the preposition à and in English by the preposition “to”.
J’offre des fleurs à ma mère.
I give flowers to my mother.
An indirect object pronoun indicates à + a person. In the above sentence, the direct object is des fleurs and ma mère is the indirect object. The indirect object pronoun that would replace ma mère is lui.
