The French expression bon marché is very common. It literally means ‘good deal or ‘good market’ and might be translated by either ‘inexpensive’ or ‘cheap.’ Like the latter, bon marché can be positive or negative. It can indicate a reasonable price, a good deal or a good bargain for pretty much anything, from cars to produce at the supermarket. It is also sometimes used for employees if they are underpaid or exploited. Bon marché has a negative connotation when indicating that the quality of the product is average or even bad.
