The verbs of the third group are called irregular verbs because they don’t follow the same conjugation as the verbs of the first and the second groups. Their conjugation varies according to their roots. In this lesson we will study the verbs with the roots:
mettre, venir, recevoir and the verbs conjugating like “rendre”:
Verbs with the root “mettre”
To conjugate the verbs with the root “mettre” into the imperfect tense, we remove the “re” and replace it with “ais, ait, ions, iez or aient” depending on the persons:
Je | mettais |
Tu | mettais |
Il /elle/ on | mettait |
Nous | mettions |
Vous | mettiez |
Ils/elles | mettaient |
All the verbs below conjugate like “
mettre”:
admettre,
commettre,
compromettre,
émettre,
permettre,
soumettre,
transmettre.
